Beacon Ministries Administration
Rev. Gene Mathis - Founder and President
Beacon Ministries was founded by Gene Mathis in 1994. His purpose was to provide Biblical teaching to laymen that would build them up in the faith in Jesus Christ and to prepare them to "go and make desciples of all nations" The method chosen to accoumplish this goal was "teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you". A Bible study began, open to the greater Chattanooga area. Soon people from many different denominations were attending and gaining true insights into the Word of God. A radio program was also started in 1994 broadcast on a local radio station in Chattanooga. Study Bibles, books and other Christian literature was made available to those attending the Bible study.
Mr. Mathis is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee. After serving in the United States Navy Gene continued his education in the field of engineering. Since he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour Gene felt called to the Christian ministry and enrolled in a Seminary in nearby Georgia. After completing his ThM degree Gene went on to become a certified family counselor. He has served in various capacities in local churches and has become a well respected Bible teacher.
